Getting started

Six steps, about five minutes. You can change everything later, and nothing here costs anything.

  1. Add Kovu to your server

    Use Add to Discord and pick your server. You need Manage Server there. Keep the permissions the invite asks for; each module uses some of them.

  2. Move Kovu’s role up

    In Discord, open Server Settings → Roles and drag the Kovu role above the roles it should give out or moderate. Discord doesn’t let a bot manage roles above its own.

  3. Tell Kovu who your staff are

    Open the dashboard, pick your server and go to Bot Settings. Add your moderator and manager roles. Moderators can use moderation commands; managers can also change settings here.

  4. Turn on your first modules

    Most servers start with Moderation (pick a mod log channel), Automod (the invite and phishing filters), Welcome and the Action Log. Everything else can wait until you need it; hide what you don’t use.

  5. Try a command

    Type /help in your server to see what’s on. Every command also works with the prefix, ? by default: ?warn @member Spamming.

  6. Tell your members about kovu.gg

    Members can sign in at kovu.gg/me to see their level, reminders and tickets. Turn on the public leaderboard in Levels, or a server page, to give your community something to share.
